The traditional Festival of Lights begins this Thursday 7 December in Lyon, and will run until 10 December. The show kicks off in the Parc de la Tete d Or.
Cellulo/d
What could be more exciting in the city where the Lumiere brothers created cinema than to compare the very first films ever made with the 'hallucinations' of artificial intelligence? In Cellulo/d, Bruno Ribeiro brilliantly combines heritage and new technology by offering audiences a live metamorphosis of the legendary films made by Louis and Auguste Lumiere. Just like the audience at the very first screening on 28 December 1895, we can admire the works, this time reinterpreted by two AI programmes and projected onto the façades of the Place des Terreaux. The famous short film Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat is given a “western” makeover and projected in 3D, before becoming a cartoon! There are plenty of surprises in store, with electronic music by Rone accompanying this journey into a film fantasy landscape. Besides being an amazing show, Cellulo/d raises questions about the challenges posed by new technologies, particularly in terms of creation.
