Lyon: More than 800 people sheltered by the Salvation Army this winter
In distress and vulnerable ... homeless.
It is 816 people that the Foundation of the Salvation Army hosts this winter emergency in Lyon. Families lived mostly in the street. "They were addressed to us by the 115".
The vast majority of children and adolescents in the shelter are in school. Thanks to volunteers, French as a foreign language (FFL) and school support are offered several times a week to all members of the families present.
These places of accommodation are there thanks to a collaboration between the State (the Departmental Directorate of Social Cohesion -DDCS-), the Metropolis of Greater Lyon and the House of social watch of the Rhone.
I spoke with a Cameroonian woman who had fled her home, her husband wanting to kill her... Or Albanians fleeing their country because of the local mafia racket...
Africans, maghrebins, kosovar, Albanians... many nationalities live side by side all day long, in perfect osmosis.

Opened as part of the "cold weather" plan, the center will close on March 31 and reopen in October or November.
