9 December 2024 - National Secularism Day.
Every year, on 9 December, a National Day of Secularism is organised. Since the law of 24 August 2021, this day has been institutionalised in the civil service.
This day celebrates the promulgation of the law of 9 December 1905 on the separation of Church and State.
To mark the occasion, the city of Saint-Etienne invited Henri Pena Ruiz, the French writer and philosopher to take part in a series of events.
A qualified university lecturer and Doctor of Philosophy, he is renowned for his work on secularism in France and is the author of the 'Dictionnaire amoureux de laïcité', among other works.
