Lyon: A High-Tech Mobile Police Station for the 2024 Olympics, and Beyond
To meet the growing needs for proximity and responsiveness during major events, the Rhône prefecture is inaugurating a mobile police station, a project that emerged about a year ago on the occasion of the Rugby World Cup. Designed to get closer to citizens and facilitate crisis management, it is being tested during the Olympics but will certainly remain operational for all major events, including national ones.
The main objective of this vehicle will be to take complaints and provide information anywhere, but also to foster relationships with the population. Approximately 30,000 euros have been invested to transform this former training vehicle. This mobile police station is equipped with all the necessary electrical installations to function like a real office, including an awning equipped with solar panels.
It can operate autonomously for four hours under full use (air conditioning, etc.) and is managed by 4 multilingual police officers.
