• ROME, ITALY - JUNE 03: Illustration of Rome; Italy on June 03, 2012..The Pyramid of Cestius is an ancient pyramid in Rome, near the Porta San Paolo and the Protestant Cemetery. Due to its incorporation into the city's fortifications, it is today one of the best-preserved ancient buildings in Rome...The sharply pointed shape of the pyramid is strongly reminiscent of the pyramids of Nubia, in particular of the kingdom of Meroë, which had been attacked by Rome in 23 BC. .The similarity suggests that Cestius had possibly served in that campaign. His pyramid was not the only one in Rome; a larger one?the so-called "pyramid of Romulus"?of similar form but unknown origins stood between the Vatican and the Mausoleum of Hadrian but was demolished in the 16th century..During the construction of the Aurelian Walls between 271 and 275, the pyramid was incorporated into the walls to form a triangular bastion. .The origins of the pyramid were forgotten during the Middle Ages. The inhabitants of Rome came to believe that it was the tomb of Remus and that its counterpart near the Vatican was the tomb of Romulus. Its true provenance was clarified by Pope Alexander VII's excavations in the 1660s, which cleared the vegetation that had overgrown the pyramid, uncovered the inscriptions on its faces, tunnelled into the tomb's burial chamber and found the bases of two bronze statues that had stood alongside the pyramid.

 • The Frescos of Pillars
Frescoes located on the pillars of the Dufferin-Montmorency Highway built between 2000 and 2002 at the instigation of Hélène Fleury, Quebec artist who collaborated in the "Fresque des Québécois".
These are the only frescoes in Quebec city who do not represent the history of the city but rather imaginary scenes.
Among them, the fresco "The Cathedral" represents the inside and the outside of a cathedral on each side of the pillar, inspired by the Sainte Chapelle in Paris.
The fresco "Chivalrous tales" introduce us into the world of tales with princess, knight and magician, while "The Clock" illustrates the mechanisms and workings of this object.
Finally "Homage to Quebec circuses" introduces observers to the circus world and its actors, jugglers, clowns and acrobats.

Algonquian people had originally named the area Kébec, meaning "where the river narrows", because the Saint Lawrence River narrows proximate to the promontory of Quebec and its Cape Diamant.
Explorer Samuel de Champlain founded a French settlement here in 1608, and adopted the Algonguin language term. Quebec City is one of the oldest European cities in North America.
The ramparts surrounding Old Quebec are the only fortified city walls remaining in the Americas north of Mexico.
This area was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985 as the "Historic District of Old Québec".

 • VATICAN CITY, VATICAN - NOVEMBER, 20: Campo Santo Teutonico It is the oldest German National Foundation in Rome. Located left of the Basilica of St. Peter, the Teutonic cemetery surrounded by a wall, does not attract immediate attention, but the charm of this cloister full of history opens quickly in the same way more urgent. Here once stood the circus of Nero, which was the scene of the martyrdom of many Christians. After the sack of Rome, the Swiss chapel was the burial place of the guards.
Because of its rather unique position, the cemetery is of course always been a very popular place of burial. According to the statutes, persons who are entitled to burial in this place are the members of the Confraternity, members of several religious houses of German origin and two other German colleges in Rome: the "Anima"and "Germanico . It also contains the graves of famous dead in the areas of church life, art, politics or diplomacy.
The last burial was that of the young Prince Alexis of Windisch-Graetz in 2010. It was the second son of Prince Hugo, one of the gentlemen of Pope Benedict XVI, and the Archduchess of Habsburg.

 • In resonance with the Lyon Biennial, the contemporary art center of the Nouvel Institut Franco-Chinois welcomes Mengzhi Zheng.
Arrived in Paris at the age of seven, he nourished himself from a childhood between his two cultures and became an artist. A resident of Lyon since 2012, this invitation is the perfect opportunity to discuss his work - with a contemporary eye - on issues of space and habitat, which has been driving him since a return trip to Ruian in 2008. Through drawings and volumes, the artist will invoke a large central sculpture imagined for this exhibition time. Frail skiffs on a table - Abandoned Models - and drawings on walls will complete his spatial approach of the place.
